Moxibustion (Moxa)
A Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy which involves burning the Chinese herb “Ai Ye” over the surface of the skin on selected points, channels and areas of the body. Moxa comes in various forms and is often used as compressed pre-rolled sticks, or the loose herb can be shaped into small cones and placed directly onto skin, on top of a slice of ginger, or on the top of an acupuncture needle. This deeply warms and nourishes the body, expels cold from the meridians, as well as increasing the flow of Qi (energy) and blood in the particular area. Moxa is used to manage various symptoms of conditions from menstrual disorders and pain, to digestive disorders, to injuries, including acute and chronic pain.
A comprehensive consultation with your practitioner will be conducted to determine whether moxibustion may be appropriate for your particular condition and symptoms.
Moxibustion can be used alone or in conjunction with an acupuncture treatment.
